Uncanny Vision wins RAISE (Responsible AI for Social Empowerment) 2020 award from Govt of India

Uncanny Vision has been selected by Govt of India (Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and NITI Aayog) as one of the top 15 companies to use Artificial Intelligence for improving society. In the last four years, Uncanny Vision has developed advanced AI technologies that are deployed in the field and being scaled now.

Following are some of the key areas where Uncanny Vision’s AI technology is helping in creating a safe and secure environment for citizens:

1. NHAI Toll Automation- National Highways Authority of India

Over 50,000 Crore worth of petroleum gets wasted for the simple reason of vehicles slowing down at the toll plazas. With the growing number of vehicles on roads and highways, it's of utmost importance to save fuel to be more eco-friendly and for our future generations. All we need to do is bring in a system that automates the process, eliminates manual tolling, to enable free flowing of vehicles on highways.

This can be achieved with Uncanny Vision’s high accuracy, high speed ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system that enables multi-lane, free-flowing tolling. This in turn will reduce the travel time, fuel wastage, and completely automates the tolling system for easy maintenance.

2. GST Compliance Monitoring

As a after effect of GST, all the checkposts in India have been removed. This led to the difficulty in monitoring the eWay bill compliance by the State Government bodies. To help tax agencies a way to monitor these compliance and ensure no loss of revenue due to pilferages, Uncanny Vision’s AI based solution found a way out.

Our deep algorithm based ANPR solution, provides real-time vehicle detection, classification, and reads the number plates with highest accuracy. This helps authorities monitor eWay bill compliance continuously to avoid pilferage and loss of revenue to the Government.

3. Road Safety & Smart Cities

With the increase in traffic on highways, the number of accidents, the number of deaths on roads have also significantly increased over the past few years in India. As an ill effect to the development of infrastructure, and better roads on highways, vehicles tend to speed up and cause accidents.

To reduce this, Uncanny Vision’s Average Speed Violation Detection system implemented on highways in India, has helped reduce the number of accidents. The solution uses high speed number plate recognition (ANPR) that helps police departments catch speeding violators. The best part of the solution is that, it is self-sustaining, as the speeding ticket amounts cover the hardware infrastructure costs.

4. Security

With the immense development happening across the country, every small city and towns have ATMs installed by banks for the ease of cash withdrawals for citizens. As the number of ATMs increased, so did the number of attacks. According to studies, there is at least one attack on an ATM in India every day. Since manual security systems are not always reliable, there was a need to find a solution, which automatically detected anomalies inside the ATMs to save innocent lives and their money.

Uncanny Vision’s AI-based real-time ATM monitoring, popularly known as, Uncanny Shield, is one of the most advanced technologies in the world. This provides security to ATMs by generating alerts when an anomaly like ‘more than two people inside the ATM’, ‘suspicious action’, is detected.

5. Safety

With the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the whole country was looking for measures to curb the spread of the virus. Bringing in systems to help governments to monitor COVID compliances easily was crucial.

Uncanny Vision was proud to launch a product within 3 months of lockdown in India, which maintained Social distancing, Face Mask detection, and Crowding detection using AI. Any safety monitoring norms like helmet, vests, masks, etc are critical for the safety of people. This solution was developed on the basis of the pre-existing ‘Worker safety’ solution that was successfully implemented in industries and factories over the past few years where we detect helmets, vests, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).

“I would like to congratulate Uncanny Vision for winning the RAISE 2020 AI Challenge in the 'Smart Mobility and Transportation' category. Out of the 300+ companies that participated in the RAISE challenge, Uncanny Vision was selected as one of the Top 3 winners in the Smart Transportation category by an expert panel which included top executives from the Industry and Government. The selection panel members include Shri Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Chairman of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (Meity), Govt of India, Debjani Ghosh, President of National Association of Software & Services Companies (NASSCOM) and other esteemed members of the industry.”
